Giacomo Luciani

Giacomo Luciani lectures at the Paris School of International Affairs, Sciences Po, and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. His research focuses on the political economy of the Middle East and North Africa. He is the co-editor of The Rentier State (with Hazem Beblawi, Routledge Kegan & Paul, 1987), which offered the first systematic discussion of the concept of “rentier state.” His most recent publication When Can Oil Economies Be Deemed Sustainable? (Palgrave Macmillan, 2020), available in free access at https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-981-15-5728-6, discusses the significance and the challenges of sustainability for the economies of the Gulf countries.
