Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran was born in Bordeaux on April 5, 1943. He studied Philosophy, Theology, and Canon Law at the Institut Catholique of Toulouse and at the Pontifical Gregorian University. Ordained priest in 1969, he entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See in 1975. In 1990 he became Secretary of the Council for Public Affairs of the Church. Elevated to the Cardinalate in the October 2003 Consistory, he has been President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue since 27 June 2007. He passed away on July 5, 2018.
