Paolo Cavana is associate professor of Canon and Ecclesiastic Law at LUMSA, Rome. He is the author of numerous publications on the legal discipline of the religious phenomenon, both in the Italian legal system (Enti ecclesiastici e regime pattizio, vols. I-II, 2002) and in a comparative perspective (Interpretazione della laicità. Esperienza francese ed esperienza italiana a confronto, Rome, 1998; I segni della discordia. Laicità e simboli religiosi in Francia, Turin, 2004).
