Research Director at the CNRS (Centre Nationale de la Recherche Scientifique) in Paris, Luizard is a historian of Islam in the Arab countries of the Middle East and a member of the research group “Society, Religions and Secularism” (CNRS / EPHE / PSL). His most recent publications include Le piège Daech, L’Etat islamique ou le retour de l’Histoire (La Découverte, 2015) and Comment est né l’Irak moderne (CNRS Éditions, 2009). He has co-edited several books with Anna Bozzo, including Polarisations politiques et confessionnelles : la place de Islam dans les « transitions » arabes (Rome TrE-Press, 2015) and Les sociétés civiles dans le monde musulman (La Découverte, 2011).
