Roberto Tottoli is Full Professor of History of Islamic Countries at the Orientale University of Naples and has been Director of the Asia, Africa and Mediterranean Department since 2012. His research interests focus on hadīth literature, Qur’anic exegesis and contemporary Islam. Tottoli is a member of the Scientific Committee for the journals Quaderni di Studi Arabi, Islamochristiana and Historia Religionum. He has been co-editor of Oriente Moderno together with Claudio Lo Jacono since 2104. In September 2020 he was elected rector of the University of Naples L'Orientale. He is a member of the Accademia dei Lincei.
