A research fellow at the Institute of African Studies (IEA) at the Mohammed V University, Rabat, he obtained a PhD in Political Science in 2009 from the same university. His research interests focus mainly on two areas: the relationship between Islamist movement, religious policies and political modernisation in contemporary Morocco and strategies adopted by North African and Sahelian states for preventing and countering radicalization. He is the author of The Religious Policy of Morocco (1984-2002). State Fundamentalism and Authoritarian Modernisation (2018, in Arabic) and several scholarly articles.
