Bernard Hourcade was born in 1946. He is a geographer and research director at the CNRS. He was Director of the French Institute of Research in Iran from 1978 to 1993, and then of the research group Monde Iranien until 2005. He has engaged in research on the social, cultural and political geography of Iran and Teheran. His works are based on research in the field often carried out in cooperation with Iranian universities. He founded in 2011 Irancarto, a web site devoted to geographical studies on Iran. He is currently consultant on Iranian political and social issues for public institutions and private companies.
