Henri Teissier of French origins, was ordained a priest for the diocese of Algiers in 1955 and was appointed Bishop of Oran in 1972. In 1988 he became Archbishop of Algiers. Profoundly linked to Algeria, whose citizenship he obtained in 1966, Msgr. Teissier, together with the Church, experienced the terrible terrorist crisis of the country during the 1990s. Since 2008 he has been Archbishop Emeritus of Algiers.
