Padre Pierbattista Pizzaballa, ofm, born in Bergamo in 1965, has been a priest since 1990, having attended theological studies and graduated in Theology at the Antonianum Pontifical University in Rome. In 1993 he graduated in Theology with Biblical specialisation from the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum in Jerusalem. Since 1998 he has been assistant professor of Biblical Hebrew and Judaism at the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum and the Studium Theologicum Hierosolymitanum. In 2004 he was appointed Custodian of the Holy Land, reconfirmed in 2010.
