A Turkish journalist and author, he studied History and Political Sciences at the Bosphorus University (Istanbul). He is a columnist for the New York Times and Hürriyet Daily News, and regularly contributes to al-monitor.com. He is the author of Islam without Extremes: a Muslim Case for Liberty (W.W Norton & Company, 2011) and The Islamic Jesus: How the King of the Jews Became a Prophet of the Muslims (St. Martin’s Press, 2017). Since January 2017 he has been Senior visiting fellow with the Freedom Project at Wellesley college (Massachusetts).
