As the revolutions of 2011 have shown, the Muslim world is experiencing a strong demand for freedom. In Islam, this principle requires an adequate theological reflection, which would allow to overcome the political use of the doctrine of predestination, claims Mustafa Akyol, Senior Fellow of the Cato Institute and author of Islam Without Extremes: a Muslim Case for Liberty and The Islamic Jesus. How the King of the Jews Became a Prophet of the Muslims.

Besides the theme of freedom, the dialogue with Akyol represents an opportunity to reflect on the state of Uighur Muslims in China, subject to a forced “re-education”, on the comparison between American and European Islamic communities and the value of pluralism. All this, without forgetting the upcoming elections in Turkey.
